Bad Girls of the Bible- Chapter 10 Bible Study

Welcome back!
If you are new, thanks for stopping by!
We are on our final chapter in this book today,
which feels pretty awesome!
Today I am going to focus on The Sinful Woman.

There once was a girl on death row.
A prostitute & killer, we know.
He pardoned her sin,
so she might live once again.
For the rest of the story read below...

Luke 7:36-50  "One of the Pharisees asked Jesus to have dinner with him, so Jesus went to his home and sat down to eat.  When a certain immoral woman from that city heard he was eating there, she brought a beautiful alabaster jar filled with expensive perfume.  Then she knelt behind him at his feet, weeping.  Her tears fell on his feet, and she wiped them off with her hair.  The she kept kissing his feet and putting perfume on them.  When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, "If this man were a prophet, he would know what kind of woman is ouching him.  She's a sinner!"  Then Jesus answered his thoughts.  "Simon," he said to the Pharisee, "I have something to say to you."  "Go ahead, Teacher," Simon replied.  Then Jesus told him this story:
"A man loaned money to two people-- 500 pieces of silver to one and 50 pieces to the other.  But neither of them could repay him, so he kindly forgave them both, canceling their debts.  Who do you suppose loved him more after that?"
Simon answered, "I suppose the one for whom he canceled the larger debt."  "That's right," Jesus said.  Then he turned to the woman and said to Simon, "Look at this woman kneeling here.  When I entered your home, you didn't offer me water to wash the dust from my feet, but she has washed them with her tears and wiped them with her hair.  You didn't greet me with a kiss, but from the first time I came in, she has not stopped kissing my feet.  You neglected the courtesy of olive oil to anoint my head, but she has anointed my feet with rare perfume.  "I tell you, her sins--and they are many--have been forgiven, so she has shown me much love.  But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love."  Then Jesus said to the woman, "Your sins are forgive."  The men at the table said among themselves, "Who is this man, that he goes around forgiving sins?"  And Jesus said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you; go in peace."

Take a moment and think about what you just read.
Does it give you goosebumps when you realize how AWESOME our father is?
He sent his son here to show love and forgiveness.
People doubted who and what he was, but this woman took a leap of faith.
She wanted a better life.
She cried tears over HIS feet to wash them.
She dried HIS feet with her hair.
She anointed HIS feet with the most expensive items she probably owned.
And his response to her, "Your faith has saved you; go in peace."

I don't know about you, but there are days when I would love to hear those words spoken to me.
I am not perfect.
**psst...here is a surprise, but none of us are perfect**
I know Jesus died for my sins, but to have been able to sit at his feet.
Whoa.
There are those goosebumps again.
I probably would have cried at his feet too.
When was the last time you humbled yourself in HIS presence?
My suggestion to you, and a challenge to myself is, find some quiet time this next week.
During that time just allow the walls to break down.
Cry if you need, sing if you please, whatever you do just do it humbly for him.
I have this suspicion that when you walk away from that quiet time you'll, "go in peace".

This is a short lesson this week.
I am kinda feeling that less is more.
So let's get to the next part....
WHAT LESSONS CAN WE LEARN FROM The SINFUL Woman?

- 1 - People will talk, no matter what we do.
"We are not trying to please men but God, who tests our hearts." ~ 1 Thessalonians 2:4

- 2 - The Pharisees though they were the Good Guys.
"No on is good--except God along." ~Mark 10:18

- 3 - One person's beautiful is another person's ugly.
"For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.  To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life." ~ 2 Corinthians 2:15-16

- 4 - Silence speaks volumes.
"The LORD is in his holy temple; let all the earth be silent before him." ~Habakkuk 2:20

Once again I challenge you to find some quiet time this week.
Time that you can go to HIM humbly.
Pray, Sing, Cry, Sit Silently, do as you please.
When your time is up, do as he says, "go in peace".

I hope you have enjoyed this time of study.
Please let me know if you would like to see something in particular in our discussions or if you have any questions.

I hope you have a Blessed Friday!

P.S. Next Friday I will be doing a book review over 'SURFING FOR GOD: Discovering the Divine Desire Beneath Sexual Struggle' by Michael John Cusick.  This book is a book I was given for free to review, the subject matter is intense, but if you or someone you know is struggling with any types of sexual struggles please check back next week for my review.

  1. I needed to hear this today... quite fitting with everything I've been going through lately. God is good. I am unworthy, but He is still good. So good. Too good, to me.
