I did a little research on this verse, as I was curious what reference James was speaking in.
As it turns out James is directing this question to "teachers" or those who think they are wise enough to teach others.
He is trying to weed out the people who just want the prestige that goes along with being considered wise versus those who are humble and live a life that God asks of them.
So let's pose the question among ourselves.
Who among us is wise and understanding?
Do we live a good life and have we produced fruitful works that glorify God?
Or do we claim to be teachers, but we never humble ourselves to do for others what we should?
If I say it once, I'll say it again, I am not perfect.
I come here each week and try to teach a verse and a meaning behind a verse.
Not just to share God's word with everyone, but to educate myself.
Bible Verse Friday is a way for me to actively pursue knowledge and better understanding of God's word.
If by chance the verse of the week and what I say impact someone else, than all I can do is praise God.
I can plant seeds, but I will allow the ULTIMATE Gardner to bring those seeds to fruition.
Reflecting back on today's verse I realize that I have a desire to be wise.
I realize that being wise holds great responsibility.
So today I will ask God to make me humble, to show me his word, and to give me discernment as I decipher it.
I ask that God will bless each of you who read and take something away from Bible Verse Friday.
I hope that you all have a Blessed Friday,
This week's verse to memorize:
"Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom." ~James 3:13
