Bowls & Mugs

Last Monday Bud & I had a date scheduled for the afternoon.
We headed over to Greg's! Art, Pottery & Gifts to paint some pottery.
We had originally planned to visit the Cape Fear Botanical Gardens, but with threats of rain in the forecast we opted for the inside option instead.
I learned something valuable about painting pottery and about myself.
The main thing I learned is that if it's your first time don't get too ambitious on the design.
As far as what I learned about myself, at least this time around, I'm a perfectionist and thus painting pottery wasn't quite as relaxing for me as others.
Maybe I'll have better luck next time, relaxing that is!
Bud chose a travel mug to paint...
Whereas I settled on a bowl to put by the front door.
Something to catch our keys, his wallet, etc.
We both set to work sketching our designs on our pieces.
Then the painting began.
It was then that I realized my design flaw...too many details!
So I set out on a redesign to which I felt much more confident about.
Bud is working very diligently...
his design was a bit more intricate than my own.
Once Bud knows his picture is being taken he can be quite the ham...
I on the other hand saw this picture and realized how silly I look when I paint.
Yes, I really did hold my paint brush like that, don't ask me why.
After 3 hours of sketching and painting we finally had something to show for it.

The hard part about painting pottery is that you don't get to leave with anything except the receipt when your done.
See after you paint it it has to be fired up!
So today is the day we got to pick up our finished products!!!
Side #1 a UT Tribute
The handle (Bud was pretty good at painting letters)
Side #2 an Air Force Tribute!
 My bowl, the interior...
...and the exterior, stars are hard!
It was definitely nice to have something to show for our work!
So in the event that you have a rainy day in the forecast I highly encourage you to look around your town and find a place to paint YOUR own pottery!

I hope you all had a Blessed Monday!
This week's verse to memorize:

"Teach the older men to exercise self-control, to be worthy of respect, and to live wisely.  They must have sound faith and be filled with love and patience."~ Titus 2:2

  2. I did that once while we lived in Florida. I chose to paint this crazy intricate picture of a Barbie doll with this crazy huge curly hair. It turned out butt ugly!!! LOL!! I threw it away. I'd like to do it again someday and paint a few hearts or something. hehe
