Frequently, you will get stationed at places that you didn't pick.
Sometimes, you will get stationed in small towns when you consider yourself a city person.
Occasionally, you will think to yourself...."There is nothing to do".
This is when we have to put our theory into action!
Live like a tourist.
Easy to say, sometimes a little harder to enact.
Nonetheless it's the credo we've taken on as a military family.
So today in order to avoid boredom and achieve new perspective we took off to explore a nearby town called Southern Pines.
Tree lined streets with a Gilmore Girl-esque type feel.
Bistros and restaurants intermittently placed on each block.
Quaint shops filled with pretty trinkets.
And a bookshop that lured us in...actually it lured Bud in....
I'm engrossed in a book about black & white photography....so much to learn!
Bud had apparently been on a mission to find the following book:

"This is the story of fire team leader Marcus Luttrell, the sole survivor of Operation Redwing, and the desperate battle in the mountains that led, ultimately, to the largest loss of life in Navy SEAL history. But it is also, more than anything, the story of his teammates, who fought ferociously beside him until he was the last one left-blasted unconscious by a rocket grenade, blown over a cliff, but still armed and still breathing. Over the next four days, badly injured and presumed dead, Luttrell fought off six al Qaeda assassins who were sent to finish him, then crawled for seven miles through the mountains before he was taken in by a Pashtun tribe, who risked everything to protect him from the encircling Taliban killers."
Content with his purchase we continued to walk up and down the main street of Southern Pines and soak up the beautiful day.
And oh what a beautiful day it was, it topped out at about 85 while we were there, but most of the morning it was a cool 78 and sunny with a light breeze!
I found a wonderful knitting shop there and immediately added myself to their email list!
She promised that a class list will go out soon, so hopefully that means I'll learn to read a pattern, thus learning how to knit so many cute items I keep spotting in blog land.
We spent about 4 hours in Southern Pines that day and it was a great escape from the routine we'd fallen into.
In closing, remember that we don't always ask to be relocated.
God's plans for us are ones that we rarely know in advance.
The best way to live with that realization is in rolling with the punches!
Live like a tourist.
Whether you've lived in your town your entire life or you just arrived take a moment to check out what tourist are doing when they visit and go take part yourself!
Who knows what you might find out about your surroundings!
I hope you had a Blessed Monday!

Aww... this looks so fun! I grew up in the same area we live in now, and I still need to do this. Sometimes you find such cool things that you never knew you were missing!
