Baby Diaries 2.2

Total weight gain/loss: I'd say about 10-11 lbs.

Maternity clothes?: Pants- 100%, Shirts- Depends on the shirt

Stretch marks?: Nope.

Sleep: It's not been bad, but it hasn't been great either.  I can't seem to find comfort sleeping on my left side.  I'm continuously waking up on my back and trying to correct my sleep posture.

Best moment this week: Hearing the heartbeat again at a doctors appointment.  140bpm!

Movement: Still too early.

Food cravings: Nope, I continue to eat healthy foods.  I'm watching my sodium intake to help with the blood pressure (which seems to be better) and I've increased my potassium to help cancel out any sodium I am eating.

Gender: I am so anxious to find out.

Labor Signs: Thankfully not.

Belly Button in or out?  Proof that I've been pregnant before.  My belly button is already starting to go flat and by the end of the day stick out.

What I miss: Picking up Bitsy without thinking first.  I have to move a little slower now or feel the twinge of round ligaments pain (nothing really bad, but definitely different).

What I am looking forward to: A friend is set to have her baby this week and I can't wait to meet the newest addition!

Until next week,
I hope you had a Blessed Monday!

Baby Diaries 2.1

Total weight gain/loss: I'd say about 9 lbs.

Maternity clothes?: Depends from day to day.  I definitely feel more comfortable in maternity pants, but they aren't always necessary.

Stretch marks?: Nope.

Sleep: Has been rough the last few nights.  Bud badly sprained his foot and we switched sides of the bed so he could elevate it.  Also, I finally got my body pillow and it works better for me when I am on his side of the bed.  Unfortunately, the switch is taking a few days to get used to.  Also, I'm waiting for a phone call from our neighbor telling me she's gone into labor so I've been a little restless about that.  I took a nap today though and that was glorious.

Best moment this week:

Movement: Nothing yet.  But my body is sure moving....or loosening up.  I've had some lower back pains and it's all because of these loosening ligaments.  Getting out for walks seems to help, so I'll keep that up.

Food cravings: Nothing specifically.

Gender: Only a few more weeks until the ultrasound and a couple weeks after that until we know.  We are waiting for Bud's 1/2 marathon to open that envelope.

Labor Signs: Nothing.

Belly Button in or out?  Proof that I've been pregnant before.  My belly button is already starting to go flat and by the end of the day stick out.

What I miss: I miss getting up super early, I still get up and eat breakfast and have some me time before getting Bitsy up, but it's definitely different now.  I am a bit slower in the mornings.

What I am looking forward to: Bud & I have a massage that my Dad gifted to us for Christmas.  It's time to use that gift card to work out some of these kinks!

When they say every pregnancy is different they aren't joking.
In the beginning I suffered from a very metallic-y taste in my mouth.
I was glad when that phase passed.
I also had quite a bit more morning sickness this time around.
Although, I was only physically sick 3 times, it was 2 times more than with Bitsy.
Finally, the worst part was my blood pressure.
At 2 different appointments my blood pressure was very high.
142/83.
They were concerned and asked if I had a history of high BP.
I never had.
They were still concerned and mentioned things like hypertension and preeclampsia.
These are not things an expectant mother wants to hear.
I had to do a 24 hr urine protein test.
This test involves pee-ing in a jug...every time...for 24 hours.
It's just as glamorous as it sounds :P
Fortunately, the results came back good.
In fact I'm healthy as  can be according to said test.
They will continue to monitor my BP at my appointments.
Other good news is that I recently had a dental appointment.
They took my BP at that appointment (I'm not sure that's something I've experienced at the dentist before), but it was 117/74.
MUCH BETTER than my previous readings at the hospital.
I'm hopeful that some of the dietary changes I've made will help my BP stay in a normal range.
Other than that I'll just put it in God's hands.

That's all for this week.

I hope you had a Blessed Monday!

Baby Diaries #49

Well Hello Everyone!
I have a 1 YEAR OLD!!!

I can't believe it's been an entire year since Bitsy arrived.
I am feeling beyond blessed.
I've shared so much of her life and pre-life with y'all that I can't help but continue.
We recently did a photo shoot for her 1 year, complete with smash cake!
What follows is a plethora of photos showcasing our baby girl!

At her 1 year appointment Bitsy weighed in at 26 lbs and 13 oz (That's up 18 lbs and 9 oz from when she was born)
She measured in at 31.5" long (That's almost an entire foot of growth in just 1 year!)
In this first year we've watched her go from needing us to fulfill 100% of her needs to watching her feed herself, crawl & pull up, and help undress herself for bath time.
She says words like Mama, Dada, and Daw (as she points to the dogs).
She's not yet walking on her own....
....but we don't mind!
We know that when the time comes she'll walk and we will experience a whole new level of busy/crazy!
I whipped up a special apple cinnamon cake and covered it in horribly sweet red and white frosting.
Seeing as how she snubbed her nose at my cream cheese frosting, I was nervous to see if she would try this.
We saved smash cake photos for AFTER our family portraits.
Bitsy was curious to say the least.
I can't get over her facial expressions.
"Hmm....let me see what I think of this confection".
"Maybe just a little more".
Still trying to see what she thinks.
SHE LIKES IT!
Now to bring on the funny pictures....

"This is fun Mom".
Bitsy gives us these big CHEESY grins now.
They make up for the tiny tantrums she throws when she's told "No".
(These tantrums involve alligator tears and 2 seconds of crying before she's back to giggles and smiles).
Becoming a parent has changed how I/We live our lives.
We used to be more sporadic in what we did, now we plan quite a bit more (normally around nap times and meals).
We used to hang out late and not worry about how late we slept in, but now we know that babies don't let you sleep in much ;)
We used to love only each other, now we love both love her more than we could have imagined.
Life changes when you have a child.
It ends as you know it, but it starts over in a new and exciting way!
Bud & I have caught ourselves on various occasions just sitting and smiling at our beautiful daughter.
Her giggles make us laugh, our laughs cause her to imitate us, which sends us into further depths of laughter!
We have paused our TV shows more than once for a chance to listen to her sleeping sighs over the monitor.
Going to bed feels incomplete if we haven't checked in on her to see what silly position she's ended up in.

"This cake is no good on the plate Mom, I can't get to the bottom of it"!
Going...
Going...
Gone...
"Ha ha, my little plan worked".
*cue Mom to flip cake right side up again sans plate.*
Only to watch her flip it again...silly girl!
Now she is trying to pick the entire cake up.
These pictures....
....crack....
......me.....
....UP!!
I recommend everyone does a smash cake photo session!
I don't think either of us was able to keep a straight face as we watched her dive into her cake.
And she was all giggles herself!
"You're not thinking of taking this cake away from me are you"?
"Because it's mine and I LOVE it"!
*cue evil baby laughter!*
So as you can see I have a 1 year old.
I am a proud Mommy.
Bud is a proud Daddy!
I love being a parent.
I love this stage of my life.
The love I have for Bitsy grows exponentially by the day.

With that being said,
I hope you have a Blessed Thursday!

Baby Diaries #48

I feel like I just blinked and a month has passed already!
I'm not joking!
Literally yesterday I said to Bud, "Is tomorrow the 27th?"
When he responded, "Yes".
I said, "That means Bitsy will be 11 months old, how is that possible!"
August has flown by ridiculously fast.
Bitsy is still weighing in at 26 pounds.
I can't wait until next months 1 year check-up to find out how tall she is.
Shortly after turning 10 months Bitsy started cruising the furniture like a pro.
Not only that, but she can now get herself down from a standing position!
That is a big deal.
Before she used to get pretty irritated when she couldn't get down, but now she can bend over and pick up stuff and return to standing!
The above picture is an example of what happens when we sing one of Bitsy's favorite tv songs.
This one is from Blue's Clues
It goes:
"Here's the mail,
it never fails,
it makes me want to wag my tail,
when it comes I want to wail,
M-A-I-L!!!!"
She claps and shouts during that song everytime.
This last month we started on some sleep training.
I really wanted to break Bitsy of her all night eating and I figured that since she had more than tripled her birth weight now was a good time.
Bud & I were guilty of rushing to her room each and every time she made a sound.
More often than not, us going in there was waking her more.
So we stopped rushing in and the first few nights we decided we wouldn't go in from the time she went to bed until mid-night.
(Thank you to a friend for suggesting this modified method, better to wean them then to cut them off cold turkey).
That went relatively easy.
Then we extended until 4am.
Again another relatively easy switch.
We have only had a few nights where she cried, but never for long.
Sometimes if she doesn't eat enough during the day, because she's too busy playing, she'll wake up between 4:30 and 5:30.
When that happens I will give her a bottle, I figure it can't be that bad for her to have a bottle for such a short period of time.
Most nights she will sleep from 6:30-7 and on a few occasions she's slept until 8 or 8:30!
It's so nice at night now, because Bud & I have time to watch tv or a movie or just relax together without jumping at every sigh or sound.
I also want to give credit to the book Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child by Marc Weissbluth.
It had some great information about how early to bed equals more sleep and late to bed equals less.
Bitsy is on a much better schedule now and everyone is happy.
Dinner at 5:30, bath time at 6, reading and cuddling at 6:15, bedtime at 6:30.
This works most nights, other nights she's in bed by 7pm.
And we totally understand that some nights it's okay if she goes to bed late or her routine is out of whack, as long as we get back to schedule the next day.
She has 5 teeth now and her other lateral incisor is well on it's way to cutting.
All these teeth are making it easier and easier for Bitsy to eat finger foods.
She eats yogurt bites, cereal bites, sweet potato fries, pieces of apple, blueberry Kashi waffles, and just recently string cheese.
She loves her string cheese.
Oh!  And look what Daddy taught her to do this past weekend,
...yup....he got her to drink from a straw.
She thinks it's the coolest thing ever!
This is Bitsy zoned out...
...ha ha ha!
Bitsy did run a little warm a few days this month.
One day she was 99.9º, but I knew it was nothing to worry about.
The next day she got to 101.7º, I was a little more concerned, but we gave her a tiny bit of tylenol and she's been fine ever since (it's been a week).
The only other main change that has occurred in the past month is that Bitsy is transitioning to 1 nap a day.
I didn't think it was time for that yet.
In fact only about 17% of little ones this age take only one nap a day.
I guess she is part of that 17%.
The good thing is that her 1 nap does tend to be between 3-4 hours so I guess I can't complain much.
It's just crazy how much has happened in such a short period of time.
I love this little critter so much and I feel so blessed by her.
Next month will be her 1st birthday!

What kinds of gifts did you get for your little ones on their first birthdays?
I asked this question to all my Facebook Mommy friends and got a plethora of ideas, but I am always open to more ideas!
What gifts stood the stand of time?

I hope you all had a Blessed Monday!

Baby Diaries #47

We have a 10 month old!
That means only 2 months until our baby is a year old!

This month I had to forgo my regular paper letters on the rug and instead picmonkey these ones on.
This little one did not want to hold still for her rug picture this month!
We attempted pictures immediately after she woke from a nap.
Unfortunately, she was not ready for her close-up so we took a 30 minute hiatus and returned to try again with Dad in tow this time.
Our Bitsy is up to 26 lbs!
Each day comes with new triumphs and I am constantly astounded by all that she has and is learning.
This month she started to "Give 5".
We have to say a little chant to get her to do it....
"Give me 5, Give me 5, Give me 5, 5, 5!"
She smiles so big when she does it.
She has on and off periods where we catch her playing with a pacifier.
This is something she has never really done.
She will now crawl around with it in her mouth while she plays.
It still only lasts 15 minutes.
She pulled up to stand for the first time, very early in the month.
The day before she turned 10 months she walked the side of the coffee table.
I am not ready for her to be a walker!
On the 22nds of July we moved Bitys's crib to her room.
She is no longer sharing a room with us.
It was a hard transition for me, but it's better for all of us now.
On July 9th we saw Bitsy's 1st tooth.
On July 23rd her 2nd top tooth broke the skin.
Her 3rd  tooth made it's appearance the same week!
And a few days later we could see that 4th tooth ready to break the skin.
Bitsy seems to be handling the teeth like a pro though.
She giggles when we laugh.
She claps when we say "Yeah!"
She has always loved Sesame St and Blue's Clues, but now it seems she watches for longer spans of time.
The rate at which babies develop is astonishing!
It's proof that there is most definitely a God!
Here is one of Bitsy's favorite toys.
A giraffe, who she loves to chew on his face!

My little dandelion's is such a character.
She's growing like a weed.
I feel like if the wind is too strong her hair will all blow away.
And don't even get me started on chubby legs, arms, bellies, or cheeks!
I am so looking forward to what this next month holds for us.
I just can't believe it's been nearly a year since I brought her home.
She has changed our lives and only for the better!

I hope you have a Blessed Friday!
