Bible Verse Friday #7

"This is what the LORD says--he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters, "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.  See, I am doing a new thing!  Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?  I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland".  ~Isaiah 43:16, 18-19

What a verse to end this year with!
The last 1/2 of the book of Isaiah is prophesy regarding a new creation in God's future kingdom.
Isaiah was a prophet and I recently learned that profit means "to boil up like a fountain".
This ultimately means that a prophet was a spokesperson for God.
A "forth teller" not a fortune teller.

Although this specific verse is referring mainly to Israel the words are so strong we should remember then today and apply them to our lives!

DO NOT DWELL ON THE PAST
     Was 2010 a bad year?  A good year?  A year of Change?  A year of Stagnancy?  Did it go as you planned?  Or was it complete chaos?  Isaiah tells us that we should not dwell on the past.  Where else have we heard this? 

          -"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear.  Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes"?

~Matthew 6:25

          -"Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life"?

~ Luke 12:25

          -"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own".

I don't know about you all, but I am excited for 2011!
I think 2011 is going to be a year full of change for Bud & I.
He graduates with his Bachelors on May 7th.
He commissions into the Air Force on May 20th.
We will move to Pope AFB North Carolina in 2011 (not quite sure when yet...should know around April).
We will make new friends and experience new things! 

resolution\ n. the act of resolving.  a solution, accomodation, or settling of a problem, controversy, etc.

I don't tend to make resolutions.

Instead I make changes and I never start them on January 1st.
So look for my post about my next 21 day challenge starting sometime next week.
I hope that if you make resolutions that you will find the will to stick to them.
If you make changes I pray that you are blessed by them.
If you plan to stay as you are, I pray God will work in your heart and you will grow!

And now everyone knows where we are moving and it no longer has to be a secret!

Birth of our Savior

Dear Friends & Family,

I hope that you are all enjoying time with your own friends and family during this very special holiday season.
Know that it is because of you that I feel blessed and thankful each and everyday, but especially today!
It is this time of year that we reflect on the reason for the season.
It is not about gifts, although receiving them can temporarily warm our hearts.
It is not about Santa Claus or Reindeers, although the concept is fun to think about.
It is not about filling our plates, although it tastes so good.
It IS about the birth of our savior, Jesus Christ the Lord.
Praise God and Thank him for his love and mercy.
Thank him for giving us his son to die on the cross for our sins.
Honor him by remembering HIM on this special day.

Boarding?

Bud & I got picked up for the airport at 5am.

Our flight was at 6:30am.

We arrived at the airport at 5:15am.

We thought we'd have plenty of time as the Austin airport is NEVER busy.

But after 20 minutes of checking in we got into the line for security.

The lady directing the line said it was at least a 45 minute wait to get through security!

Bud kept checking his watch and saying, "This doesn't look good".

I said a quick little prayer and once we were finally through security and to the gate it was 6:35am.

Technically our flight should have been gone, but we made it!

We got on the plane...the 1/2 empty plane.

We took off at 6:40am.

It was a crazy start to the day!

After arriving in Kansas City a few hours later we realized that we or at least I am a true Texas. 

I was not prepared for the 18 degree weather.

I had a jacket, gloves, and scarf....but I dislike the cold more than I can explain.

I can't seem to get warm.

I am a sunny warm kinda girl....bring on 100 degrees!

Oh well, I guess I'll make due and stay inside as much as possible over the next week.

I hope to check in with you all again tomorrow!

Saturday despite feeling ill I was able to get outside and enjoy the day.
I took a few pictures of this tree outside our apartment.
In all the years we have lived in Austin I can say this is the FIRST year that we have experienced the colored foliage so vividly.

Most years the trees are green one day and the next the leaves are on the ground, just like in the cartoons.
I had lunch with a good friend Mrs. JF.
We tend to only see eachother once a semester because of our hectic schedules, but we make up for it.
Afterwards I stopped by Hobby Lobby and I had to laugh when the cashier said, "I check you out a lot"!
Haha...I may have a crafting addiction, I'm becoming a regular face at the Hobby Lobby.
It's dangerous living a few blocks from the heavenly crafty haven!

Sunday Bud & I skipped church. 
I know, bad us. 
He'd been sick for nearly a week and I wasn't feeling so great either so we thought the extra rest would help.
Plus we needed the extra rest so we wouldn't have to cancel our lunch plans with some out of town friends.

We randomly met this couple on a cruise a few years ago while watching a UT game.

Turns out Mr. AT graduated from the same AFROTC program at UT that Bud is currently enrolled in!

We missed them by only a year.

Needless to say we clicked and spent much of our free time on the cruise with them and since have stayed in contact.

As a military spouse you quickly learn and understand what people mean when they say it's a small Air Force.  

Obviously it's not, but when you start to network all of a sudden you have friends EVERYWHERE!

I'm so excited for Active Duty life as an Air Force Wife....only 150 days to go!!

I hope everyone is having a blessed Holiday Season.

Bible Verse Friday #6

"But after he had considered this, an angel of the LORD appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.  She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins."" ~Matthew 1:20-21

Joseph has just contemplated divorcing Mary quietly because her pregnancy was, what he thought, a sure sign of infidelity.
But then he had this dream and when he awoke he did just as the angel of the Lord commanded of him and he took Mary home as his wife.

Okay I'm going to take this a different direction today.
Most people read this and think about Christmas immediately and well it 'tis the season.
However, my brain skipped the obvious and got stuck on the word divorce.
I think it has to do mostly with yesterdays post.
Divorce always seemed like a more modern thing.
I never really thought about it as an option in Biblical times.
But there it was a thought clear as day in Joseph's mind.
And here Bud & I stand looking at our families riddled with divorce.
Do you know that my grandparents on my father's side are the only couple I've known to not be divorced.

Let us go through some he-begets (i.e. Bud's Family):
Bud's Grandfather has been married and divorced approx 13-17 times (some of the same women)
Bud's Father and mother divorced right as we started dating.
Bud's Aunt & Uncle are both also divorced from their original spouses.

Now the she-begets ( i.e. My Family)
My Mother's Mother was her father's 2nd wife.
My Parents divorced about a month after Bud & I were married.
My Aunt has been married 3 or 4 times.
My Uncle never married my cousin's mother.
My other Uncle isn't really active in my life (so I don't know much about him).

Bud & I look at this and think to our selves that we MUST break this cycle of divorce in our family.
We made a pact that if things get bad, we WILL seek help (for us that means going to the church for counseling first).

Can you imagine if Jesus would have been the product of a single mother? How would the story be told now days?
I'm guessing more children would relate to it, unfortunately.
I picture little kids sitting cross legged saying, "Oh I see so Jesus spent Christmas with his Mom and then he spent Thanksgiving with his Dad...I understand".

We live in a society where marriage is no longer valued.
We live in a society where we think it should be easy and if it isn't well we search for the BBD (Bigger Better Deal).
I'm not trying to step on toes today.
I'm not saying that there aren't times when divorce is the only/best option.
I am saying that as for me and my house we will fight with every fiber of our beings to avoid this route and to break the disease that Satan has plagued our family with.

During this holiday season I want to remind everyone to look around at your family and remember to love them.  The new, the old, the remarried, etc and remember that God made each of them.  I'll be reminding myself that as well this year.

Bombarded...

Bombarded\ v. to assail vigorously.

Have you ever been bombarded?
Have you ever felt that no matter how hard you tried to please everyone you couldn't.
I'm not saying that it's possible to please everyone, I'm smarter than that.
But I can try my hardest can't I?

Well Bud & I were bombarded this afternoon.
With the holidays fast approaching and to do lists growing exponentially this afternoons attack was unexpected.
About a year ago we told the family we would come visit for Christmas.
All we wanted for Christmas was all the family under one roof at my Mother-in-laws.
We wanted my mother-in-law and her husband, my mother & her husband, my father-in-law and his wife, my youngest brother-in-law, and my oldest brother-in-law and his wife to all get together for Christmas.

Well it's dwindled down to My mother-in-law, her husband, my youngest brother-in-law, my mother & her husband.  So about 50%.  Okay.  We can live with this.

The problem with both of us having divorced parents is that it's havoc trying to see everyone.
That is why when we moved to Texas 4-1/2 years ago, we told the family that if they wanted to spend the holidays with us, they would have to come visit us.
You may think that sounds harsh, but because it's impossible to appease everyone's desire to see us when we DO visit, we had to set this rule for our sanity.
Bringing us back to this year.
We are about to embark on a journey that when we complete it we will be stronger because of it (I hope)!

Today my mother called asking for additional details about our trip.
I didn't have answers yet.
Apparently, Bud had already thought of how the 6 days would go, but somehow we didn't communicate this game plan (He may have mentioned it, I may have forgotten, who knows what happened).
Needless to say when I got another phone call asking what the plans were from my mother-in-law I felt bombarded (it's not her or my mother's fault).
I felt like I was going crazy.
Oh and let me clarify, I seriously have the best in-laws a girl could have.  I love my extended family.  The blitz attack was more of an emotional one, because I felt bombarded and un-prepared WHICH if you know me is uncharacteristic of myself (pssst....I'm a planner)!
We have done our best to divide the time amongst the parents as equally as we can and that is the best we can do.

I know that there are some hurt feelings and I know that no matter what people will feel like they didn't get enough time with us.
I'm sorry for this.
We are doing the best we can in the short time we have.
Besides seeing the family, the best part about this Christmas is that we FINALLY will be able to tell everyone where we are moving to after Bud commissions!

Again, I love my family and Bud's family deeply.
I'm excited to see everyone.

And now I'm exhausted, because like I said....that To Do List seems to be growing each day!

Best We Can Be

Sometimes our plans are altered and it is how we react to those alterations that define us.
The church I attend is a secondary location to our main campus.
On Sundays our service is telecast to the secondary location.
Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties they were unable to get the live feed working for the 1st service.
Our pastor at the secondary location had 60 minutes to prepare a sermon.
How did he react to this alteration?
Well he admitted that when he is stressed his eye twitches and it was currently twitching.
I have admiration for him, he was calm, he was pulled together and even if our sermon today was a hodge podge of verses and ramblings of his views it had gave me something to ponder.

Am I the best I can be?
We touched on Mark 10; when Jesus explained that many who are last will be first and the last first.
Pastor explained that often when we have bed news to deliver we take a moment to remember that we love that person.  That is why we try to protect them and soften the blow.

We also talked of 1 Corinthians 13 and this is when I realized that I am not always the best I can be.

Love is patient, love is kind.  It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no records of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

I am not always patient.
I keep record of wrongs, or I have before.
I don't always trusts.

These are things I must work on in order to be the best I can be.
It's easy this time of year to think of being Merry & Cheerful & Bright.
It's easy to follow through when everyone is on their best behavior and you can feel the love.
But what about when the holidays are past and the chaos of "normal" life and the hum drum of day to day sets in.  Do we remember to keep up those loving feelings?
That is my resolution.
I don't make New Years Resolutions and I suppose now I'm not really making one.
I'm planning to start effective immediately.
I'm planning to continue through New Years and hopefully throughout life.
Help hold me accountable.

This post is much like Pastor's message hodge podge of verses and ramblings of my views and for that I apologize.  But I hope that maybe something I said will touch someone, just as Pastors words taught me.

Bits & Pieces

As I reflect over the craziness of the past few weeks I realized I have left out a few bits & pieces here and there.
So tonight I'm going to catch you up on some of the small things that went on here!
The beginning of December marked the end of something else.
In July, around the time I really started blogging here I also started journaling.
Nearly every night I wrote about the things that I can't write about on here.
So for 4-1/2 months I wrote in my beautiful purple journal and now I have switched over to my clean fresh white journal.  It's not much to you guys, but it's pretty exciting for me.

On December 3rd I had my first "photo shoot".
I have so much to learn!
A fellow AFROTC cadet asked Bud if I would be willing to take a senior picture for him that he could gift to his Mom for Christmas.
We set a time and place and I showed up nervous and afraid that I wouldn't capture what I wanted to.
Well here it is:

That evening we went out with ROTC for the end of semester tradition...dinner at Salt Lick BBQ.
If you aren't from TX you don't know what your missing.
If you are from TX or you plan to visit TX you should definitely put it on your places to eat!

On December 5th Bud & I celebrated our 9 year dating anniversary.
April will be our 7 year wedding anniversary.
It's amazing how time flies when your having fun!

Finally, last night was the Senior dinner at Colonel's house.
At the end of each semester they have the seniors over and honor the ones who graduated.
It was a lot of fun to dress up a little and socialize with everyone.

We just finished watching the ORIGINAL 1980s version of TRON.  It was Bud's first time....it's amazing to see how different movies are now.
Time to settle in and watch some of Season 2 Dexter with the hubby.

Bible Verse Friday #5

So sorry I have missed this the last few weeks!
It seems like since Thanksgiving life has hit fast forward and I'm running as fast as I can just to keep up.
Oh what it would feel like to be ahead of the power curve again.
I think that's what the New Year is for.

"The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites.  You must listen to him". ~Deuteronomy 18:15

These words were from Moses as he told everyone that God would provide a prophet for them.  I have discovered through a little digging that after Moses there was a succession of prophets including Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel and finally and most importantly Jesus Christ.

Moses told the people that God would fill these prophets mouths with words and that the people should listen. 

We are supposed to listen to the words that the prophet spoke. 
How can we do that if we don't live in the same time as the prophet?
This one is easy.
We have an entire book filled with the words that God commanded him to speak, the Bible is our prophet-tell-all.
It is our job to study it, learn it, and spread it.

None of those things is considered easy to many of us.
We make excuses as to why we don't have time to read and learn the verses and even easier than making excuses for that are the excuses we make for not spreading the word.
I'm guilty.  My husband is the social butterfly it's easier for him to approach a stranger and enter into conversation. 
I, on the other hand, clam up and get nervous.  I can put on a show and greet people, shake hands, etc.
But when it comes to actually sharing with them, that's when I close up. 
I have a fault.
It's a big fault.
I'm afraid of people.
No...not in a sense that they would do me physical harm, but rather that they will not accept what I have to say, that they will take things as a personal attack, that they will share with others of whom I had no intention of sharing.
Can you tell I've been burnt before?
It's called conditional training, I've been conditioned by people not to share.
And yet here I sit typing on a blog for anyone to read.
It's safe back here, behind a computer screen.
If you don't like what I have to say, you can go to another blog. 

The main message today though is that we have to break past these excuses and we have to study, learn and share the prophets words. 
So take 5 minutes today and read a passage, read the rest of Deuteronomy 18.

Bold Prints

I've caught the bug...
the sewing bug that is.
My poor husband is going to be find out how bad I've got it very soon.

You may ask, "How does he now know yet"?
Well I'll tell you that for the past week and a half he's been gone most nights studying for finals and working so he hasn't been home when I've turned our living room into a fabric factory!
I made 32 ornaments as gifts, last night I made a camera strap for our photographer friend, and tonight I created one for myself (mine is a little fancier)!

Now if you are a photographer you might notice that my strap seems short, well it's a custom strap that's padded so it doesn't rub my neck raw like my old strap did.  If you have a camera and would like a strap like this made for it...I'm more than willing to take some orders!  Shoot me a comment and I'll get back to you for measurements of your strap and your fabric preferences (if you have any favorite colors, patterns, etc).  If you are a skilled or learning seamstress you can always try to whip one up on your own.  I used the following tutorial

Learning to use my sewing machine over the past few weeks has been really exciting!
I'm hopeful that someday I'll be talented enough to make my kids costume for Halloween, or make purses and home decor...oh and I can't wait to take my quilting class....I'm in trouble then!!!

On a separate note, I'm back to working out as of yesterday.  My goal is to get back to 4x a week.  I had surgery back in November and my Doctor put me on two weeks of no exercising....well it had been 4 weeks when I finally got back on the treadmill last night.  I only did 1 mile, but I have hopes to get back to 2 miles in 30 minutes again soon.
Also, I mentioned my reading goal the other day.  I had a big goal set for Dec 16th which seems and probably is unreasonable.  However, my goal is to finish my Booksneeze book review VERY soon and then start reading "The Chronicle of Narnia" series.  There are 7 books in the series and I have a good feeling I can read each one in 2-3 days given my current schedule.  If so I might get close to my original goal...
We shall see.

Bad Mood Biz

Unfortunately there are days when bubbly Biz is not quite so bubbly, but rather irritated and annoyed.
Today is one of those days.
Bah-humbug!

Let me just recap the good things that have happened this week.

1.) I am done sewing my Christmas gifts.  I finished last night and boy did it feel amazing!
2.) I was asked to do a senior picture for a cadet who graduates in about a week.  I have little experience with this, but the weather is promising and he already knows where he wants to take the picture so I doubt I can mess this up.
3.) I ordered an adorable new banner for my living room and I can't wait for it to arrive!  We aren't doing much Christmas decorating because we don't have the space this year and we won't be home for Christmas, but I needed a little something help set the mood.

I can't wait to hang this from MY mantle with some twinkly lights

As for my negative Nancy mood it's my own burden to bear.
It's a combination of frustration with something I have no control over and something that isn't even my problem, rather something that has direct affect on our future. As well as pure exhaustion from working so hard to get gifts done and ready for mailing. I guess I've been feeling a little underappreciated and I'm letting that affect my mood.  Not healthy I know.
I'm hoping that my husband will forgive me for nagging lately.
It seems that when I am driven I think everyone else should be equally driven.

So I'm asking for prayer for peace and patience.
'Tis the season of love and grace....I guess I need to start practicing that.

is exactly what I have been doing for the past few days and it wasn't until I was crawling into bed last night that I realized if forgot to blog yesterday! 
Sad day I still have to catch everyone up on life!

Sunday was a good and bad day.
It was good because the weather was beautiful, church was amazing, and we still had my Dad in town.
It was bad because we had to drop Dad off at the airport that afternoon and the rest of the day I intermittently cried like a baby.

Sunday morning Bud left early to help with setup and I made cinnamon rolls and  brought Dad to our church for the early service.
We've been covering a series called: Who is Jesus
And this was the last week in which we covered the specific topic: What did he teach?
I got goosebumps at the end of the sermon when Pastor Ted asked us to all repeat the following verbage:
"The Bible is the word of God, Jesus is the son of God, He died on the cross for my sins, He rose again on Easter, I owe my life to him, If I will follow him & do as he commands then my life will have purpose, meaning, & direction now & forever more".

After church we came home and I made mini meatloafs.
Dad convinced us to bring the dogs out for a walk which when I realized how nice it was outside I decided it was necessary to get a new father/daughter portrait and of course a father/daughter/son-in-law picture!

At 3:45 we dropped Dad off at the airport.
Bud had to go study for the remainder of the evening so I worked on my Christmas presents and sewed the night away.

MONDAY
Why is it that Monday's always sneak up on us?
I felt like I just had 2 weeks off work and then I get to work on Monday and forget all about that time off.
Also I suddenly realize how busy we were when Dad was here and now I'm exhausted!
It's okay though.
I'm exhausted, but because Bud has another full night of studying ahead of him I rush home after work and get back to sewing...at this point I'm still pretty slow on my sewing procedures, but I'm hoping to pick it up and get faster the more I do this!
