Crib Rail Protector!

Hi All!
For those of you who have babies, are about to have babies, or know someone in one of those categories this is a tutorial for you.
Cribs are expensive.
Even the ones that aren't expensive are still expensive!
That being said how do you protect that 'investment' when the little one grows from a baby to a beaver?
Make a railing protector!

Here is What You'll Need:
- 1/2 yard of fleece (mine came 50" wide)
- coordinating thread color

Lay your fleece out (floor or table, just somewhere you can lay it all out flat.)
Measure approximately 24" and cut.
(You would have a piece of 24" x  50" fleece)
Next measure the width of your crib.
If it is less than 50" you'll want to cut your fleece again so that it is only as long as the width of the crib.
Fold your fleece in half so that it is approximately 12" x width of your crib.
Pin the edges together.
Folding it in half like this helps ensure it's thick enough to not need batting or some other type of padding.
Measure in 4" and trace a line.
Now measure in 4" from the other edge and trace a line.
Sew a simple line over the traced lines.
It should look something like this.
Now the edge that is closed you can cut open.
Bring your project thus far to your crib railing and figure out where all your railings are.
Now cut a line where each railing is, this way you ensure that you don't end up with ties that are difficult to tie.
It'll look something like this after you finish.
Go back through and cut each of those slots in half.
You will have 2 ties in between each railing.
Finally, you can attach the railing protector much like you would tie up a 'tie fleece blanket'.
The end result!
Proof that babies chew on the railing!
So glad I made this.
When she get's taller I may make a shorter version for each end of the bed...
So far I'm not concerned about the other side because she doesn't pull up on that side with it being against the wall.
Use your own discretion and make as many of these as you want!
Also these are totally machine washable.
I also appreciate the fact that the rail protector is also a head protector for when my little one mis-steps and bonks her head on the rail.
Now it hits a padded surface which is not nearly as traumatizing.

What other items do you find yourself trying to protect from baby?
Any other hand baby-proofing tips?

I hope you have a Blessed Thursday!

  1. Fantastic idea! Wish this had been around before little teeth found the crib. Eli is in L.G.'s old crib. He hasn't chewed on it yet. Perhaps I should make one quickly before more damage is done. :)
